Atmanirbhar Bharat In The Defence Sector. After the 2019 elections, 167 conversions were listed down to be enforced within the first 100 days, one of which was the corporatization of the Defence sectors of the country.

The corporatization of the 41 Ordnance Factories took a long time because of their age and the strong unions that provided work to almost 80,000 people.

Atmanirbhar Bharat In The Defence Sector:

To take a step up in making India Atmanirbhar; self-reliant, the government has finally split the Ordnance Factory Board into seven separate companies. The current Defence Public Sector Undertakings(PSUs) are 100 per government-owned assets. Although The government put forward that these 7 companies would form a strong; defence base for the country in the upcoming future. The prime minister prompted the 7 companies to become global brands along with producing; for the country, keeping their expertise and quality as the upfront motto.

Mandates In The Corporatization:

Moreover The prime minister made it clear that the interests of the employees are protected and the corporatization; would provide complete autonomy to the companies. Which will help them become global brands. This move was to enhance the Ordnance factories to improve their expertise; and the quality of the products and gain profitable assets. This would be a cost-effective process and increase competitiveness in the market.

Facing The Challenges:

Especially Indian ordnance factories, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited; are the 4 Indian companies which are some of the top arms producers in the world. All of these are now public sector enterprises and account for a chunk of the domestic armament demand. Poorly developed or even the lack of crucial technologies; Although It leads to the incapability to produce manor components hampers the main ideal of the defence sector corporatization.

Moreover Without the government investing in the factories and no funding systems, the industry is bound; to collapse with its poor production environment and tight labor laws. It is more important now to focus on reasons for the inefficiency of the Defence sectors; rather than relish the successful corporatization of the ordnance boards.
