Is Freedom to choose your own faith a hoax in India
India is a secular state. Yes, for how long? No, I am not talking about the lynching cases, the minority suppression and the other usual things. We have already turned docile to it. The thing that deserves your attention today if not paid the right attention will hunt you the next. The best part of the system of oppression is that it is a system. Today the system that is not bothering you much will come after you for a reason you never anticipated then. Freedom to live life according to our choices, Freedom to follow any faith of our choice and stay protected are the two very basics of every democracy. A blow to it crumbles the structure. Here is a tale of horror that will haunt you.
Moreover the problem started after Renu Gangwar converted her faith from Hinduism to Islam and named herself Ayesha Alvi which was released in the newspaper. Pretty normal, isn’t it? But this did not seem normal to a group of individuals who also formed a part of this system. After repeated statements by her that she was not at all forced or coerced by anyone to change her faith; it was almost clear to everyone that she did it out of her own will. But even after this.
This recent case indicates something unbelievable
Alvi stays in Delhi due to her work but originally hails from Tilhar, Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. She has been living in fear since a man claiming himself; as a reporter took her pictures and recorded a video; has also been allegedly forced to pay Rs 20,000 under threat. Her father was taken by UP police officials on 26th June.
Finally Silver lining to these ominous times; the Delhi High Court has issued an interim order to the Delhi police to ensure the safety of Ms. Alva The only question that remains here is, is it a crime of an adult to choose her faith herself.
