A Patriot’s Worry
New India all around the world, there has been a statistical decline in democratic ideals. If you think it is strictly constricted to India, it is entirely wrong. But the only difference between patriots and nationalists lay in the fact that patriots opt for improvements in the spheres of their country that are poorly developed. So as a patriot to true sense, it becomes an obligation to discuss the problems that deserve special attention. This article is not meant to hurt anyone’s religious or national sentiments.
When did we start becoming so intolerant? Evolving in ‘New India’ has left us with a new definition of nationalism. A jingoism that is enrobed under nationalism! A nationalism that needs you to equate government and nation simultaneously. We are force-fed with news that the power system wants us to feed with. The agents? The journalists and media channels must have sided with the people sans power. We have slowly stepped into a new India where we need to keep our intellectualism and liberalism censored with ourselves. Yes, we have decriminalized homosexuality and accepted the gender spectrum legally, but society still passes mean comments which are done away with and of course same-sex marriages are still illegal because they can break the family fabric of the Indian value system.
About New India
Last lockdown we saw a heap of dead bodies dying helplessly on the road while travelling to their native villages during the lockdown. No government arrangements were taken significantly for their locomotion but when came the elections, the migrants became their priority. Cases against women were on an all-time high. We haven’t forgotten Unnao have we? The flickering flames of ravenous brutality instilled a new definition of barbarism.
When it comes to minority suppression, it does not even need to be stated. From frequent or rather regular lynching cases and then glorification of the perpetrators to the law on Love Jihad. A law under which many willful inter-religious married couples were detained. One case where the pregnant girl was aborted forcefully was too insignificant for the major media channels to show. The best part is that it does not matter to the majority population at all. They are too endorsed in their privileges ignoring the stark reality that ‘They will be after you next!’.
