Burqa – a cultural attire worn by Muslim women is often now considered as a symbol of oppression according to the colonized society. It is true that in many countries women are forced to wear a burqa but in the countries where democratic laws are exercised, the burqa is just a choice. Many say that ‘she is advocating for such a regressive tradition.’ To her defence, she is advocating for things she believes in.
Although “If my burqa empowers me, I do not think anyone has any right to pinpoint at me wearing a burqa! It is my choice and I stand firm on it. I have represented India to many important business forums in the international spectrum wearing my faith! Not even for a moment, did I feel that I am carrying patriarchy! To me, it is my choice. I am not promoting anyone to do it without their wish; but if you wish then it is your wish.” Said this intrepid lady.
