781 Omicron Cases have been infected with the highly transmissible coronavirus variant Omicron. The strain of concern, initially discovered in November in South Africa, has already spread to 21 of the country’s provinces.
With 238 cases, Delhi is the state with the most Omicrons, followed by Maharashtra with 167.
In the last 24 hours, India has reported 9,195 new COVID-19 cases, up from 6,358 cases the day before. Throughout the country, the government has been accelerating immunisation campaigns.
In India, over 143 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccination have been delivered, marking a landmark milestone in the fight against the virus.
Current Recovery Rate
The current recovery rate is 98.40 percent, which is the highest since March 2020. In the previous 24 hours, at least 7,347 persons have resurfaced. A total of 3,42,51,292 patients have made a full recovery. Active cases make up less than 1% of all instances, with 0.22 percent being the lowest level since March 2020.
Currently, there are 77,002 cases open. For the last 45 days, the weekly positivity rate has been less than 1%. For the past 86 days, the daily positivity rate has been less than 2%.
‘’Extremely High’’ Risk Rate
After COVID-19 case numbers increased by 11% globally last week, the World Health Organization announced today that the risk posed by the Omicron variant is remaining “extremely high.” According to the WHO’s weekly epidemiological bulletin, Omicron is responsible for rapid virus surges in several countries, including those where it has already surpassed the previously prevalent Delta form.
Early data from the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Denmark — which presently has the highest infection rate per person in the world — revealed that Omicron had a lower risk of hospitalisation than Delta. However, more information on Omicron’s severity in terms of clinical signs, such as oxygen consumption, mechanical ventilation, and mortality, was required.
