125% Rise in NO2 Content
NO2 Content a report that is often overlooked. After the concept of sustainable development is always a myth, it always has been so! The carbon dioxide level, the nitrogen level, the air pollutants, these all hardly mattered to us. We barely love following environmental rules, don’t we? It is the result of all these years of negligence that has piled up together into a devastating shape. Air pollution has almost become synonymous with Delhi. Even after an eon of policies and strategies, the air index shows no such change. The nitrogen dioxide content in the air has increased 125% this year even after the lockdown. Still, little thanks to lockdown to restrict the figure which would have been not less than 147% otherwise! The research conducted by Greenpeace India, a non-governmental organization (NGO) claims this.
According to the reports, the NO2 level has increased in almost all major capital cities of India. In the capital city of the country, it is highest followed by Chennai (94%) and the content is lowest in Kolkata (11%). It has many serious impacts not only on the environment but also on the health of the people. It affects their circulatory flow of blood and respiratory systems.
In Delhi’s Air within one year
The burning of fossil fuels has its impacts on the environment. Already this generation is suffering from deadly diseases due to pollution but there has been no stop on the rise of pollution so far. This report indicates one thing and that is, our next generation is paying a heavy price for our reliance on fossil fuels. Usage of fuel on a limited magnitude with guidelines can to a certain extent curb pollution but we usually do not care about those norms. If this continues, the doom day due to thick smog all around is not that far.
