ISRO Gagan Satellite is India’s first satellite-based navigation system and it supplies reference signals to boost the accuracy of the global navigation satellite system receiver.
Developed collaboratively by ISRO and AAI, it is a Space Based Augmentation System to provide the best navigation services across the country. GAGAN integrated with GPS means accurate locations. GAGAN helps GPS meet the national standards of navigation and rectifies its faulty signals caused by disturbances in the ionosphere. It Is also informs us about the health of other artificial satellites in the orbit.
Working And Application Of ISRO Gagan Satellite:
Although GAGAN increases precision of locations estimations by and serves GPS receivers with improved information. The infrastructure consists of a ground and a space component. The ground component has 15 reference stations across the country and receives the GPS signals.
GAGAN is being utilized for effective management of wildlife and resources. The Road Asset Management System will use modern methods of tracking using GAGAN. Furthermore, it assists Indian Railways with expert navigation and track alignment, among other services.
Real time traffic management is something that is still under development using GAGAN technology.
GAGAN And Indian Aviation:
India has become the first country in Asia-Pacific to develop and use GAGAN for aviation purposes. This satellite based augmentation technology provides three dimensional navigation to guide aircrafts.
GAGAN provides accuracy in all phases of flight in all airports within the covered zone. It also allows high quality air traffic management and aircraft positioning.
GAGAN is one among the only four satellite based augmentation systems in the world, and its coverage extends from Africa to Australia, providing seamless navigation throughout the area and interoperating with the other three satellites. It offers the same accuracy provided by ground based systems, instead, it saves fuel, equipment’s and ensures safe in all transportation with proper navigation signals.
