Cotton Council Of India. The Union Government minister Piyush Goyal endorsed the formation of the cotton council of India on 18th May 2022. Which is to be put under the chairmanship of Suresh Bhai Kotak; who is often proclaimed as the ‘cotton man of India.
This council will have representatives from the different existing councils and ministries of India; which includes the ministries of agriculture, textile, finance and commerce. Besides, the members of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI); and the Cotton Research Institute are also a part of this council.
It is tabulated that the first meeting of this council will be held on 28th May 2022. This council will primarily talk about and contemplate the problems faced by the Cotton industry in India.
What is the need of this cotton industry?
The announcement of the cotton industry was made during a conference with the Union Minister; Piyush Goyal and the stakeholders of the cotton value chain. Where a plea to reduce the prices of cotton and yarn; was put forward to counter the rising price of cotton in this season. Despite a large area of India under cotton cultivation, cotton production; is very less in the country proving to be a huge challenge.
Thus setting up cotton council would definitely create a separate base for the better planning; of cotton cultivation to increase productivity.
Schemes Expected To Be Implemented By The Cotton Council Of India:
Especially The council will make sure to provide the best quality cotton seeds to increase the productivity. The government identifies the cotton farmers to be the weakest point in the Cotton; value chain and has asked the council to look into theirs interests and needs.
The government has also decided to look in to the yarn prives by improving the spinning industry and by exempting; them paying the import duty up to 30th September 2022 to overcome the shortage of cotton.
Although The cotton council of India is expected to work and take the right actions; to improve the cotton production and reduce the prices of cotton in India.
