Police fire water cannon at farmers on their protest march to Raj Bhavan

Police fire water cannon at farmers

Police fire water cannons used to stop farmers from entering Raj Bhavan by breaking the barricades. Farmers had planned to meet the Governor of the state; to mark their 7 months old protest against the 3 draconian farm laws by the Centre. The farmers have shot water canons at the Chandigarh-Mohali border.

Moreover Farmers from parts of Punjab; met at Amb Shahib Gurudwara located at Mohali before starting their journey towards the Punjab Raj Bhavan. Similar to this, farmers from Haryana too had gathered; at Nada Shahib Gurudwara located at Panchkula, before heading towards the Raj Bhavan. The Haryana Police had already implanted security measures; at the Chandigarh-Panchkula border on getting information about the farmer’s march in protest of the bills.

On their protest march to Raj Bhavan

Since 7 months; since farmers have been protesting in different parts of the country; to appeal to the government in reconsidering and repelling the draconian bills. The farmers are strictly against the centre’s new bills; named, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 and ‘Farmers’ (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020’. These three bills are called the black bills by farmers. No minimum support price or MSP is assured under this agriculture law.

Since the farmers have been fighting for their cause for a long time. They have had held rounds of talks with the government. The government on the other hand arrogantly denied bending down on their stances. Many farmers have already died but their movement is still alive. This ruthless police action has left an unhealthy etching on the sands of democracy.
