Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2020, On Monday, Rajinikanth received the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu presented him with the prestigious award for his outstanding contributions to Indian film.
The actor wore a white kurta-pyjama and was accompanied by his wife Latha, daughter Aishwarya, and son-in-law Dhanush to the ceremony. On this occasion, Dhanush was presented with the National Film Award for his work in Asuran.
The 2019 Dadasaheb Phalke Award, as well as the National Film Awards, were scheduled to be revealed last year but were postponed because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The government bestows the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke award for excellence in cinematic achievement.
Amitabh Bachchan, who co-starred with Rajinikanth in the 1991 action film Hum, was named the winner of the 2018 award.
Rajinikanth is also the recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, and has appeared in both Bollywood and South Indian films, attracting a sizable fan base.
He debuted in the Tamil cinema industry in 1975 with K Balachander’s Apoorva Ragangal and has worked in the industry for over 45 years. The Kabali actor, who was most recently seen in AR Murugadoss’ Darbar, will soon be seen in his much-anticipated flick Annaatthe.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar initially revealed the information in April of this year. “Rajinikanth, lovingly known as Thalaiva by his fans, will win the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest cinema distinction, on October 25,” he tweeted on the official Twitter account of the Directorate of Film Festivals, India.
Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Khushboo, and Prakash Raj feature in Annaatthe, which is directed by Siva from the south of the country. The film was repeatedly postponed due to production delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic. It is now set to be released on November 4th.
